Getting rid of all the allergy causing dust in your home isn’t always as easy as a quick vacuuming and a dusting of your window sills. Below are some dust hiding spaces to look out for. Every homeowner wants to make their home as free from allergens as possible, with dust being the primary cause. However, it isn’t always as simple as dusting everything you can see and then vacuuming your carpets afterward.

How to Find Hidden Dust in Your Home

Below is a post from Charlotte Cleanpro with some hidden places you will find dust and how you can remove it!

Ceiling Fans

While the majority of homeowners will clean their ceiling fans during their regular maintenance, only very few will clean the top of their ceiling fan blades. Why? Because the general consensus is that dust can’t gather on top of them because they are in use. Unfortunately, this isn’t true. It only takes a couple of days of inactivity for your ceiling fan blades to accumulate an allergy affecting amount of dust. Look through your vacuum cleaner attachments and you will find one which suits the task. Be sure to complete this cleaning once a week or in line with your regular cleaning schedule.

Curtains and Drapes

Similar to the top of ceiling fan blades, many homeowners just stick to cleaning the front side of their curtains. After all, this is all that’s seen. In reality, there is likely to be a large accumulation of dust hiding behind your curtains and drapes. Using the extension nozzle on your vacuum cleaner, be sure to clean the back of your curtains and drapes all the way from the top to the bottom. This cleaning doesn’t have to be completed every week, with a simple vacuuming once a month often being sufficient.

Don’t Frame Your Dust

Hanging photos of your favored memories and family members on the wall is a great way to decorate your home. However, behind these photo frames will be more dust than you would care to imagine! The simple reason why this happens is because picture frames are rarely, if ever moved. Take each one off and give the backing a clean with a damp cloth. Before you hang it back up, wipe the are of the wall to keep it as clean as possible. This is a task which you will only need to do every six months or even as part of your yearly spring cleaning. Ducts and Vents

If you are lucky enough to have a heating system then there is a good chance that you haven’t turned it on all summer. During this down time, dust can and will easily begin to accumulate inside the vents and the ducts. During the summer it isn’t a problem but you can bet that it will start to give allergy sufferers problems once you turn it on when the temperatures start to drop. Before you use it again, take your vacuum cleaner and clean as far in as possible. Once this is done, use a damp cloth to wipe away any remaining dust you can reach.

Similar to the tip above, most people don’t really use their lampshades as much during the summer because their curtains are often open to allow light in. Unfortunately, this leaves them in the ‘out of sight, out of mind’ category where they will begin to collect dust. Dust won't just collect on the outside, but also on the inside of your lampshades. Once you have turned off the lamp and unplugged it, use an appropriate attachment with your vacuum cleaner and give your lampshades a thorough cleaning. If you have lampshades which are fragile, a clean and damp cloth is a good option.

Home Entertainment

Whether it’s a DVD player, surround sound, or even a large screen TV, there is a good chance that you installed it and then never really gave it much thought afterward. Unfortunately, this leaves it to simply sit there and collect dust. Once you have unplugged your devices, get your duster and be sure to clean behind each item. This could mean that you need to safely spin your TV around to get to all of the areas where dust can accumulate.
